Symbol of Transparency and Innovation: Central Bank of Azerbaijan’s New Headquarters
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan’s new headquarters in Baku is a 164-meter tall, 32-floor high-rise designed to be a symbolic and open structure, replacing the previous hermetically-sealed building. Located on Heydar Aliyev Avenue, the tower features a sculpturally twisted volume with full-height glazing, establishing it as a prominent landmark in the Baku skyline. The project, which commenced planning in 2008 and construction in 2021, is scheduled for completion in 2024.
The design incorporates a transparent, full-height atrium that functions as a “vertical city,” fostering urban-like neighborhoods with platforms, short-circuit stairs, ramps, hanging gardens, and daylight reflecting cones. This innovative atrium enhances communication and offers breathtaking views of Baku and the Caspian Sea. Moreover, the building embraces sustainable energy practices with features such as solar gain utilization, passive sun protection, natural ventilation, and maximized natural daylighting.
