Stade Amahoro: Rwanda’s Premier Sports and Event Venue
Stade Amahoro is the largest stadium in Rwanda, located in the capital city of Kigali, and hosts various sports events, concerts, and public gatherings. Built in the 1980s with Chinese aid, the stadium gained notoriety as a refugee camp during the 1994 genocide. In 2018, the Rwanda Housing Authority announced plans to expand the stadium, and the project was completed in 2022. The expansion, carried out by Turkish company Summa Construction Inc., increased the stadium’s capacity from 25,000 to 45,508 seats at a cost of approximately $165 million, bringing it up to international standards.
